Have you experienced yourself being so focused and uptight about achieving your goals, you actually slide back rather than move forward with results?

Yes of course we must all be focused on our results, and stay dedicated to our goals if we want to achieve success in any area of our lives. But could a hard core focused attitude sabotage us? Most likely.

The key is "relaxed focus", a term I coined to describe the state to be in, in order to remain organized, focused and yet not uptight and attached to the results.

Very often, when we are too attached to the results we drive what we want away. It is a bit like courting a potential mate in a way. You have to find the right balance of showing interest and yet at the same time not to hurry things or intimidate your potential interest. Would you continue to date someone if they develop a stalker behaviour? Wouldn't you just run the other way!

The same principle applies here. It is about finding the right balance of focus, not too much and not too little. And the main thing is to be consistent in your efforts in achieving your goals.

When you try to hurry things along by applying more pressure than necessary, there is a higher chance of losing sight of your intentions and before you know it the whole process takes a life of its own and you are just a slave to it.

Your Assignment This Week will assist you to find the right balance for yourself. So here goes:

1. Daily write out or say our your goals in the present tense as if you already have it as a gratitude prayer/mantra.Eg. I am grateful for this wonderful project that is paying me well financially ($SSSS) and with even more opportunities in the near future.

2. Keep these gratitude prayers/mantras at the back of your mind as you go about your day with actions in a relaxed focus manner. Not stressing yourself up or being uptight if things don't go your way and just know that you will have time to review later.

3. At the end of the day, ask yourself if you had a successful day? If not, what adjustments can you make? What have you learned that will make tomorrow a more successful day. If yes, applaud yourself for a job well done knowing that the results will definitely come to you with each successful day.

(Success means different things to different people, the main thing to remember is that your definition of success must take you towards achieving your goals. If your idea of success is to lie on the couch to watch TV all day long and you think you had a successful day even though your job is not to write TV reviews, then you really need to uplevel your success quotient!)

4. The next day, repeat.

Have a wonderfully successful day ahead!
